INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL "EL TURÓ"

INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL "EL TURÓ"

We are a small public school in the town of Montcada i Reixac (35 000 inhabitants) in the metropolitan region of Barcelona. We are a single-form entry school with a total of 225 pupils between 3 and 12 years old and 15 teachers. It is a single-form entry school with pupils who come from different countries like Morocco, Pakistan, Colombia and Russia with a wide variety of languages and backgrounds. This gives to our school a sense of diversity and the pedagogical project of the school is based on offering pupils a rich environment where their personal growth as well as their learning is supported. Critical thinking, tolerance, responsibility and respect for both her/him and others are among the main promoted values. The language of the school is Catalan and we enhance Catalan culture to strenghen cohesion between our pupils. Spanish and English are introduced since pre-primary. CLIL project (Content language in Integrated Learning) is currently being implemented, involving Maths, Environment and Music. We are an Eco-school and we have an environmental education programme.

We participated in two Comenius projects on climate change and the importance of saving electricity and we took part in the ETSize project, attending an intensive course in Brussels and the final conference.

INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL “SERRAPARERA”

INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL “SERRAPARERA”

We are a public school in a working class neighborhood of Cerdanyola del Vallès (434 pupils and 27 teachers), an example of diversity as our pupils have different social, lingüistic and cultural backgrounds and capacities. Our objectives are to give children the opportunity to grow up respecting the differences and we organise every year, a cultural week with activities around the school subjects as well as performances where all the school community participates; this course the topic was related to Science. Families are an important part of the school community and they participate in many activities along the year (Christmas concert, Cultural week, Carnival, St George’s Day..). The school language is Catalan, although we have a linguistic plan for our diverse pupils; we want that they achieve communicative competences in Catalan and Spanish but also in English, that starts in Pre Primary education (4 years old). We are involved in a National Experimental Project for Foreign Languages on Art and Crafts (levels 5 and 6), to develop the children’s ability to express themselves and to communicate in artistic visual language, providing them with communicative competence. Art and Crafts is a good tool to develope fundamental resources of expression and to acquire communicative competence.

We participated in ETSize project attending an intensive course in Riga and the final conference. Our school is mentoring the school practice of students from the English department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL "LES FONTETES"

INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL "LES FONTETES"

Our public school is placed in Cerdanyola del Vallès, a town of 58.000 inhabitants in the metropolitan region of Barcelona. The school has 260 pupils, from Pre-primary (3, 4 and 5 year olds) to 6th grade. We are in a neighbourhood where global inmigration has been setting along the last decade, bringing a multicultural social environment to the school. Our students come from around the world: Ecuador, China, Pakistan, Egypt, Argentina, Romania, Morocco..... They arrive with different levels of instruction and sometimes, at any time of the year; this fact needs a particular attention to them. We have a special class adressed to help the newcomers to understand and learn the Catalan language in a very intensive way but also to help in the basic knowledge when needed. The multiculturality brings very positive aspects and enriches the schol life. We deal with the diversity in a positive way, doing projects and working on a collaborative and active learning. The learning of English language starts at the Pre Primary levels (3 years olds).

We participated in different European projects. In ETSize, some teachers participated in the inservice courses developed in Riga (Latvia) and Graz (Austria), as well as in the final Conference in Bursa (Turkey). We also host the teaching practice of ERASMUS students of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL “BELLATERRA”

INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL “BELLATERRA”

Our public school, also known as “L’Escoleta” (The small school”), attends 465 kids. We are placed in Cerdanyola del Vallès, in the Autonomous University campus. The school belongs to the UNESCO network of schools and of 0-12 Schools programme. We uphold an inclusive model of education: children with permanent and severe disabilities are fully integrated into the classrooms with the support from special needs teachers and professionals from outside the school. We are also a priority school for students with hearing impairments. We defence in our educational project the significance, in all areas, of the work-in-teams projects that give value to the cooperative education and we priorize the evaluation models of work processes that allow the participation of boys and girls in the organization of school life, of the everyday life values and other values related to peace and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Our educational project gives special relevance to the importance of all the possible languages (spoken, mathematical, artistic, body, music..) as part of communication itself and the school has a dance teacher for all levels.
We participated in many projects both on organization and curricular innovation with the Department of Education of Catalonia and the Faculty of Education. Every year we host trainees from Teaching studies. We participated also in two Comenius projects. One, as coordinators, involved all Primary levels ("Food, school and environment") and the other, was based in in Pre-primary ("Bringing a child into the world of art: artistic correspondence.”). Orator project and the "How-know" project, are some among other projects.

INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL “ELS PINETONS”

INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL “ELS PINETONS”

The Pinetons school is a three-line kindergarten and primary school with 35 teachers and 520 pupils located in Ripollet, a town of 37.000 inhabitants in the metropolitan region of Barcelona. It is just a new, 6-year-old school, and it is still growing. Currently our oldest pupils are in 4th grade and in the end there will be until the 6th. The majority of our students have Catalan or Spanish origins, however, there are 4-5% of students from other world regions such as Africa, South-America and Central Europe. Concerning our pedagogical school project, we enhance project based learning because in this approach, students explore real-world problems and challenges. With this type of active and engaged learning, students are inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they are studying. Consequently, textbooks are not usually used, as knowledge is constructed from the students' interests and curiosity. We got a special unit specialized in autism and eight kids diagnosed with this spectrum disorder are totally integrated in the ordinary classroom.

English language is taught as a first foreign language and a CLIL project (Content language in Integrated Learning) is currently being implemented, involving Maths and Science contents. We are very keen on working with other European schools because networking is one of our most important targets. For that reason, this year we have applied for a Comenius school association.
