Welcome to this introduction of our school !
De Rank (the ‘tendrill’) is a school for primary education in Hengelo, The Netherlands. We have pupils from the age of 4 till 12, populating eight grades. We believe in the principles of Helen Parkhurst and teach them to our pupils. Our school is a Dalton school and you can experience it within our school. According to the Dalton Plan pupils work at their own pace and receive individual help from other students or the teacher when necessary, besides also following formal class instructions. Students make time tables and are responsible for finishing their work in time. From an early age, the pupils are encouraged to make their own educational planning.
We prepare the pupils for the future by teaching them 21st century skills. They get acquainted with higher thinking skills, research skills and meta-cognitive skills by exercises that force them to be curious, critical and independent. In our classrooms you will therefore see different methods of learning from individual to cooperative modes of working.
