After Derby, next Conference for 2015 will be in Milan. Welcome to the University of Milano-Bicocca!
Ours is a young, dynamic and multidisciplinary university, which in the space of ten years has created an extensive network that includes many world-famous universities, research centres and top corporations. We are offering courses – Bachelors, Masters, PhDs - which will equip you for the challenges of a complex and changing world.
Students, researchers and professors have come together at our University with ideas, enthusiasm, and talent, and with the intention of creating a brighter future. The University of Milano-Bicocca was established on June 10, 1998, to serve students from Northern Italy and relieve some of the pressure on the over-crowded University of Milan. Groups of professors and researchers chose to come and participate in the enterprise. They were driven by their enthusiasm for the new, and by the chance to broaden academic horizons without having their work undermined by traditional methods of education. From the start, this very fertile climate became a unique training ground, which offered something new even in the most traditional disciplines.

Milan is the capital of the Lombardy Region and Italy’s most cosmopolitan city. 3.8 million people live in the Milan metropolitan area. Milan can be considered a bridge between the Mediterranean Sea and Northern Europe. And with its monuments and museums, its beautiful Alpine lakes and ski slopes, its location not far from Venice and the beaches of the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian Seas, Milan is certainly Italy’s most important crossroads.
Milan is a famous center of art and culture. Its architectural, artistic and museum heritage is of great interest. It is famous in particular for its Cathedral (Duomo) but can boast also an imposing Castle, historic churches, and palaces. World famous masterpieces include Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper at the Santa Maria delle Grazie church, Michelangelo’s Rondanini Pietà at the Castello Sforzesco and works by Mantegna, Bramante and Raphael at the Pinacoteca di Brera.
One of the most famous Milanese cultural institutions is ‘La Scala’ opera house. Its opera, ballet and symphony productions attract thousands of people from all over the world.
Milan has won the bid to host the International Exhibition Expo 2015 whose theme is: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.
