INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL "ROUREDA"

We are a public school with 450 pupils and 29 teachers from 3 to 12 years old located in Sabadell, in a very alive neighborhood in the outskirts of the city. Our pupils come from working class families who moved two generations before, from rural southern regions of Spain to Catalonia; their mother tongue is Spanish but as the school language is Catalan, they have bilingual skills. The school is a community of teachers, parents and students that seeks the integral education of children. Our work target the achivement of respect on fundamental rights and freedoms, the acquisition of intellectual habits and work techniques. We encourage respect for linguistic and cultural diversity of our environment as well as the education for peace, cooperation, social inclusion and solidarity among all people. The school is keen to improve the learning of the English language which is taught since the beginning of the schooling. At this goal, we run a National Experimental Project for Foreign Languages to improve the use of Oral English (2009-2011).
Our school has participated in international activities that started with a Comenius (2004) in Intercultural Communication Argonauts of Europe, in which we were tutoring the two months school practice of European student teachers. We coordinated also a Comenius school project (BECA, Building European Citizenship through the Arts, 2005-2008 ). In ETSIZE, some teachers participated in the inservice courses and in the final Conference and the school hosted the study visit of a group of European teachers. Our school is mentoring the teaching practice of the ERASMUS teacher students of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
