INFANT AND PRIMARY SCHOOL “ELS PINETONS”
The Pinetons school is a three-line kindergarten and primary school with 35 teachers and 520 pupils located in Ripollet, a town of 37.000 inhabitants in the metropolitan region of Barcelona. It is just a new, 6-year-old school, and it is still growing. Currently our oldest pupils are in 4th grade and in the end there will be until the 6th. The majority of our students have Catalan or Spanish origins, however, there are 4-5% of students from other world regions such as Africa, South-America and Central Europe. Concerning our pedagogical school project, we enhance project based learning because in this approach, students explore real-world problems and challenges. With this type of active and engaged learning, students are inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they are studying. Consequently, textbooks are not usually used, as knowledge is constructed from the students' interests and curiosity. We got a special unit specialized in autism and eight kids diagnosed with this spectrum disorder are totally integrated in the ordinary classroom.
English language is taught as a first foreign language and a CLIL project (Content language in Integrated Learning) is currently being implemented, involving Maths and Science contents. We are very keen on working with other European schools because networking is one of our most important targets. For that reason, this year we have applied for a Comenius school association.
